In this moment, I feel I have very little control over what is happening in the world. That includes clay, which can crack unexpectedly, after multiple firings. What I Came In Here For, changed when I decided to follow where cracking clay wanted the creative conversation to go. I chose to be inspired by the unexpected cracks, purposely carving cracks into the SHE Torsos to see how the sculptures could evolve. The process led to "Cracks Let The Light In."

I make ceramic torsos, adopting this form to communicate narratives that are significant to me. My recent work is about the preciousness of tide pools in an industrial era. 10” cast torsos are attached to detailed coral inspired bases. Growth and loss are alive within the sculpture’s richly layered texture and real gold dots symbolizing seeds of new coral. The Body Memory torsos have 6 separate columns, painted with kiln fired layers of oxides and glazes. My narration, informed by historical art and current events, is hand-painted on the torso’s inner surfaces, peaking out to draw the viewer in.
